2/8: Close Reading Paper Guidelines & Class on Wednesday

1) Here are the close reading guidelines that we went over today in class. They’re also  posted on our course site under “Resources.” Your close reading essay will be due Friday, 2/24 by midnight on Blackboard. We’ll practice close reading another passage in class next week — if you have any questions on how to close read or what passage might be a good choice, please let me know.

2) Since the college is closed on Monday (2/13), I will see you all for our next class on Wednesday (2/15). See our course schedule here.

2/6/2023: Course Schedule & Reminders

Hi everyone, thanks for an interesting discussion today and thank you to Jennifer for leading our conversation! Two quick things:

1) I know there’s been some confusion over chapter numbers in P&P…for those of you reading an editionthat does not divide the novel by volumes, I’ve updated our course schedule to include those chapter numbers in yellow. Hopefully this clears up any reading confusion, but please let me know if you still have questions!

2) A reminder that class starts at 9.30am; please be on time. A pattern of lateness will adversely impact your participation grade. If you are going to be late due to an extenuating circumstance, shoot me an email so I know.

Looking forward to continuing our conversation on Wednesday, with Juliette leading discussion. If you haven’t posted a Q&Q yet, I’d encourage you to do so or take a read of the posts already up.

Just a reminder to sign up for a time to lead discussion once during this semester. Simply write your name down next to one particular class day on our course schedule

On this day you will be expected:

1) to have written a Q&Q response for that day’s reading and posted it on the class doc

2) to share your response during class time

3) to engage throughout the discussion/come prepared with questions.

Let me know if you have any questions.
